Skid Steer Attachments For Snow Removal
21 February 2012Are you looking for a used skid steer for sale? Are you going to use it to remove snow from driveways and streets? Then you’re going to need the right attachment. It actually takes something more complex than an ordinary used skid steer utility bucket to remove all traces of snow from a parking zone, pathor driveway. Below is a list of some skid steer attachments that can be used to remove snow from the ground.
Bucket
Speed and efficiency are the top selling points of utility buckets. Most buckets have a sharp edge at the bottom side for scooping up earth, snow and materials from the ground a lot easier. Some of the areas that require a bucket are sidewalks, walkways, parking areas and driveways.
The Snow Blade
Snow blades work best with light or moderate snow build up on sidewalks and streets as well as large areas like a parking lot. They feature a moldboard that pushes snow and can be tilted up to 30 degrees right to left. Some models may come with a rubber cutting edge that helps prevent scratches from forming on pavement surfaces.
Snowblower
Sometimes, a snowblower is more efficient in snow removal. Unlike snow plows or the regular utility bucket, snowblowers throw snow from the ground to a direction that you choose. Thus, snowblowers give you better control and precision. Snowblowers are available in various sizes. You’ll work a lot faster with large attachments since they cover a wider area.
Angle Broom
An angle broom is designed to sweep away light snow. After all the snow has melted away or when it’s not snowing, the angle broom can be used to swee away dirt and dust from the streets. Changing the sweeping angle of the angle broom is very easy – you can do it hydraulically inside the cab. There are also angle brooms that come with a quick-change rotor that lets you replace the sweeping bristles when necessary, even when you’re in the middle of a job.
Scraper
A skid steer scraper features a cutting edge that can easily slide into the ground or floor. The sharp edge is for breaking up materials that have hardened, such as ice and hard packed snow, so you have a smooth walking and driving surface. Other than that, the scraper can peel away mud as well as dry materials like tiles and carpet.
In addition, ensure you’re using a used skid steer enclosed cab before doing the actual work. Skid steers used to have overhead canopies only to provide protection against heat, rain, snow and other weather elements. The downside of the overhead canopy is that you’re still left exposed to various environment elements, such as snow, cold weather, dust and airborne pollutants.
With an enclosed cab, you not only stay safe from hash weather conditions, you also stay warm in the winter as the enclosures retain heat. Cab enclosures are usually detachable, so it’s easy to take them off when it’s summer and there’s dust clouding your view from the cab.
The number of skid steer attachments for snow removal don’t end there; there are lots more. The aforementioned units are just the tip of the iceberg.
